TOMKAT Receives Associated Builders & Contractors Excellence in Construction Award for 2004

In October of 2004, TOMKAT was the proud recipient of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Excellence in Construction Award. The award was received for a project at the Alamo II - a major student bookstore at Illinois State University - in Normal, Illinois.

The Alamo II project involved a total massive exterior renovation of the commercial building, including a new roof. Because the scope of the project was so large, TOMKAT had to carefully coordinate all of their work with masonry, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical workers, as well as pay close attention to the sensitive timetable and the traffic needs for the area.

The project involved installing a membrane roof in the attic area before removing the shingles, sheathing, and trusses. Later, demolition involved the removal of walls and slate shingles before installing a standing seam copper roof (mansard type), overflows, and gutters. The total project lasted about 10 months, including several visits from TOMKAT to complete the roof. The total project was completed in August of 2004.
